Great news for British travellers! UK low-cost airline Easyjet has now confirmed new flights between London Luton airport and Essaouira. The flights have been rumoured for some time but they can now be booked online as of May 2015.
The service starts on 1 May 2015, with departures and returns on Fridays and Mondays (leaving Luton at 6.40 am and arriving at 10.20 am without a time difference). This makes direct trips for a long weekend or a week or two a much more straightforward journey than before. Currently there are only connections to Paris and Marseilles from Essaouira airport and British travellers were previously obliged to travel via Marrakech and transfer the 2.5 hours to Essaouira by bus, taxi or hire car. Now the journey can be completed in 3.5 hours from take off to landing.
Booking is open and flights are already proving popular. The 1 May flight is already considerably more expensive than later that month.
In other flights news, Easyjet has now connected Glasgow to Marrakech, providing the only flight currently between Scotland and Morocco. Departures are on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Easyjet are certainly becoming popular among maroc-o-philes and British expats in Morocco!
